Chris Shaw our managing principal is riding in this event again this year and is raising funds through sponsorship/donations for his ride from Queenstown to Invercargill with a group of other riders. He is in serious training at present – undertaking 80km+ rides every weekend as well as long rides through the week whenever time allows.
What: Up to sixty riders will cycle from Queenstown to Invercarcargill (230kms) on Friday the 12th of May 2017 to raise funds for our local rescue helicopter service.
Lakes District Air Rescue Trust operates helicopters based in Te Anau and Queenstown that service the wider Southland area. The cost to operate is $1.2 million each year and only 50% is funded by the Government and the balance comes from the community, general fundraising and the Westpac Chopper Appeal.
Over 450 missions are undertaken every year or 650 flying hours.
When: May 12th 2017
Where: Queenstown to Invercargill
