[Covid-19] Leadership resilience

We are currently experiencing uncharted times and there is no playbook built from history of how to truly deal with the situations that we are encountering. As business owners and leaders within our organisations it becomes even more important for us to really lead from the front, as we empower and support our teams.

Here are some keys to think about as we ride the wave of the unpredictability of this situation:

  • Take care of yourself first, have you ever heard the expression “fit your oxygen mask first”.  This instruction comes from flight attendants speaking about putting on your oxygen mask before helping anyone else out.  This fights against every bone of body as leaders because we believe we need to help everyone else BUT we are no good to anyone unless we are well.  So ask yourself this “am I taking care of myself?”
  • Understand opportunities to help more, at the moment people will need your business in more ways than you think.  Look at what you currently do and what could you offer to clients that you may not currently be offering, it might just be the thing that your clients truly need through this time.
  • Make a plan. What is your plan for this situation so that you know what you can and cannot do as you move forward through these uncharted waters.  Just like you have a strategic plan that guides how you do business and where you are going, make a plan that is agile and adaptable to be able to shift with the world as things unfold.
  • Ask for help there is support everywhere and expertise in all different areas, look to those trusted advisors and support people to help you get clear on what you need.  It is about us picking everyone up and supporting those around us so that we all rise with the tide in order to be successful and stay resilient through these times.

I hope these ideas and resources bring you value and insight during this uncertain time.

Please do your part in setting a positive tone, be a true leader during this time, choose to develop more skill and insight, and care for those you love and lead.

Stay healthy, stay safe and reach out — we’re here for you!
