Celebrating National Volunteer Week

We invite you to join us as we shine a spotlight on some of our impressive team members that make such a difference in our communities, one day at a time.

Every year, around 1.2 million New Zealanders volunteer and provide a substantial contribution to the strength of our communities, economy and environment.

With the help of volunteers, local non-profits can expand their services and reach more people than they could on their own. Volunteerism is the backbone of all community efforts; what you do and how you do it sets the course for many of our communities.

National Volunteer Week 2023 runs from 18-23rd June. This year’s theme is Time to Shine. A thriving community is really important to McIntyre Dick.

Team spotlight

We asked a few members of our team to talk with us about their experiences volunteering over the years.

I have been a member of Winton Rotary for over 10 years and was President a few years back. We were heavily involved with the creation of the walking track around Winton.

We’ve been involved with numerous fundraisers such as house tours, local phone books, fertiliser drives and more recently the Blair Vining fundraiser.

We volunteer for ‘meals on wheels’ delivery, drive collections for hospice and manage traffic management for sports events. I definitely make good use of my Fridays off! We also support the local high schools with students attending Outward Bound. All in all, probably too many things to list. I love being a member of Rotary, it is such a great service organisation.”

We know we're lucky to have such a wealth of people willing to dedicate their time to the betterment of our community. We'd love to hear what you are involved with so we can celebrate your community contribution along with that of our team.

I am affiliated with NZ Gymnastics - Trampoline as a Senior Advanced Judge at a national level. I love to travel around the country to judge at competitions.

Normally, I end up on the difficulty panel (the hardest part!!!) to judge the country's best athletes, including two Olympians. Each time I see them, they are setting new NZ records for the highest difficulty ever competed.

I also keep up to date with the latest international competitions so I know what to expect when our top athletes compete at home (in NZ). We currently have athletes competing at a World Cup in Portugal, and next month a team is competing at a World Cup event in the USA.

In addition to this, I was fortunate enough to be a judge at the NZ Gymnastics Championships held in Invercargill last July. In the past, I had a great time travelling internationally as NZ's only international judge (which has since lapsed)."
