Last week, Eden one of our superstar Client Advisors attended the NZCA Technical Skills Training conference up in Auckland. See what she had to say about her experience!

I attended the NZCA technical Skills Training conference run by RSM Auckland. On the first day, we had a session run by Phil Walker who is a Partner at NSA Tax. The topic was on business structures with an emphasis made on listening to what the client actually needs. As well as structuring them in a way that allows freedom to be one of the most beneficial aspects of their business, whether that be an asset or creditor protection.

The second day was run by Galiana Bell, Tax Principal at RSM. This session covered:

  • Provisional tax
  • Terminal tax
  • UOMI
  • Penalties
  • Imputation Credit Accounts
  • IR10 filing
  • Tax residency
  • GST
  • Fringe Benefit Tax
  • Bright line rules

Galiana also emphasised how useful Tax Pooling is which is a service that we offer here at McIntyre Dick. We also had a session on marketing and communication by RSM's marketing manager. He emphasised that awareness, understanding and communication are crucial parts of clients understanding your brand. We were also taught the 3BC rule: Be clear, considerate, and correct. A practice that is crucial to communication and representing yourself and your firm in a positive way.

On the final day our host Steven Hayes, RSM Audit Principal and Director took us through employment issues and work paper completions. it was interesting comparing our work papers and the way we do things compared to other firms

Overall the trip was a great way to gain some further knowledge and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience.
